When it comes to your HVAC equipment, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and once the snow has started to melt you might as well spend some time getting your A/C System ready.
Here are some things you should do to prepare for spring.
Clear away any winter debris. Leaves and other items that accumulated over last summer and fall can restrict airflow. Restricted airflow to your condenser especially if you have not changed your furnace filter can easily increase your the cost of operating your air conditioning by 15%.
Plan your garden around your condenser. If you’re planning on planting a garden this spring, make sure you account for your HVAC equipment. You want to allow at least two feet of clearance around your condenser and if at all possible avoid planting any deciduous plants within 6 feet.
Change your furnace filter. In most cases you need to your furnace filter twice a year. Once before heating season and once before cooling season. Not only will your system operate more efficiently but a clean filter will be more effective at capturing spring pollen and allergens.
